Internships Start


Brindy Jackson with mentor, Eric Kugler - Brindy Jackson was hired in September to join Groundwork NOLA's team of youth environmental activists. She is one of 3 high school interns in the New Orleans area.










 Brianne Lewis – Brianne Lewis is one of 15 students participating in the Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies’ Media Advocates for Prevention (MAP Program). Brianne is working in the area of public health by learning how to advocate for teen pregnancy and HIV prevention.


Dwayne Augustine – Dwayne Augustine was hired this year by Mr. Shane Colman as the school's technology assistant. During his free periods, Dwayne troubleshoots technology issues, giving his mentor time to address other students' concerns.  

Jarol Mejia - Jarol Mejia interviewed on October 1st with two instructors at Delgado Community College for a position as an automotive collision repair intern. If chosen, Jarol will get direct training in auto body and paint repair.

Students prepare for Interviews: Power Ties comes to the NET!

Ashira gets ready to start assisting at Abeona House Daycare!

Ashira likes working with children, especially babies. She is reading up on the Reggio Emilia approac, which is the philosophy adopted by the daycare center. In order to prepare Ashira is doing research and reading the staff and parent manuals so she can learn all she can to fit in well at her internship.

Terrylyn starts grooming!

Terrylyn loves working with animals. She will be working with her mentor, Mr. Hookfin at McFaith Pet Supply and learning how to groom dogs of all sizes. She is excited about learning this new skills because it is a great business and she gets to work with animals and their owners.

Jules starts not 1 but 2 internships!

Jules is interested in farming and agriculture and is thinking about going to school for botany. He is starting 2 internships after the Mardi Gras break. One morning a week he'll be volunteering with the Horticulture department at Audubon Zoo and one afternoon a week he'll be volunteering with Edible School Yard at Green Charter School.

Kenisha starts her internship at Chateau De Notre Dame!

Kenisha wants to be a Registered Nurse. She had her first day volunteering at Chateau De Notre Dame today and worked with several of the residents. She was able to speak with the nurses on staff and help  engage the residents in different activities to keep them feeling good and healthy.

Dwayne starts his internship at YRNO offices!

Dwayne has always been interested in Non-Profit management and he will get a chance to learn all about it while working with Will and Brian at Youth Rebuilding New Orleans offices. Dwayne has had non-prof experience while working with a summer program teaching young children to use computers. This will expose him to a new business model and hopefully give him a chance to really see the inner workings of a successful business designed to help teachers in this city purchase affordable homes so that they can remain in New Orleans.

He will have a specific job description based on his previous experience working with technology, which will include Social Media, Marketing and Internship promotions. 

Paul, Kenisha, Tori & Alisha start their internship at Chateau De Notre Dame Residetntial Facility!

Paul, Kenisha, Tori & Alisha want to pursue a career in nursing. They will be volunteering with Lisa Heisser at Chateau de Notre Dame assisting with several activities; such as working one on one with residents, helping with dietary needs and assisting nurses carry out their duties around the complex. They will get some great experience while helping lend a hand to those in need.

Lance and Courtney begin their internship at YRNO!


Courtney & Lance begin their internship at Youth Rebuilding New Orleans. They will be working on building sites learning specific trade related skills. Courtney wants to be a carpenter and Lance wants to learn as much as he can about the field of construction. They will not only be gaining some great skills, but helping a good cause as well, building affordable housing for teachers in New Orleans. Its a win win.

Jarol begins his internship at SCOOTS!

Jarol will be working with Oscar at Scoots on St Claude learning how to sell and repair motorbikes and scooters. He already has some experience in construction and will be using his building skills to learn a new trade. The shop is filled with tons of new and fixed up bikes, so Jarol will be well versed in the business by the end of his internship.

Above is a picture of Tynika at her internship site, working with Allison her mentor in the Asian Domain. She is learning first hand how to care for the animals, including feeding them! It was so exciting to see the great experiences she's having at Audobon Zoo.
