NET Love at Grow Dat's Hootenanny!

NET students Ashley Morgan and Julio Bermudez got to catch up with The NET's former Internship Coordinator, Ms. Monique, at Grow Dat Youth Farm's annual Hootenanny fundraiser.  Ms. Monique established the partnership between The NET and Grow Dat in 2012, which has lead to over a dozen students participating in the program to learn farming and life skills in a fun environment.

Ashley says her favorite part about working at Grow Dat is "getting to invite people to the farm and show them what we're working on!"

Internship Program Update

The Internship & Career Program has been busy the past few weeks! 

We connected with a great new partner called Upbeat Academy that teaches students music production through working with local producers and rappers. Victor has been loving his internship and got a chance to attend The BUKU Music Festival and represent Upbeat a few weeks ago.

We have also connected many of our students with programs that are working out of the Youth Empowerment Project's space on OC Haley Blvd.  Students have learned computer coding with Operation Spark, bike repair and retail skills through the Trafigura Work and Learn Center, and Digital Design through New Orleans Design and Development LLC. 

We are getting ready for the summer where the NET will have a summer internship program that will run from June to July. We are excited what our students will explore this summer through their internships!

Last week during spring break, The NET's film club worked on their latest project in City Park.  The movie is called "Metamorphosis" and will be premiered at NET Night on May 21!

Academic Dean Selection

After a national search and rigorous selection process, The NET is excited to announce the promotion of Neil Poynter to the position of Academic Dean.

Neil has been an Advisor at The NET for three years and is already a leader in our building.  Neil is currently responsible for training and supporting other staff in Community Building activities, for Town Hall, and for the NET Ambassadors program.

Neil will transition into his role in July 2015.
